Growth Chart
I built the PrintNC towards the end of 2020, and at the beginning of 2021, I became a Dad. Naturally, I wanted to start using the PrintNC to make projects for the family, and this is the result!
I designed the growth chart in Fusion360 and cut it out of walnut. My intention was to have something that was a blend of kid-friendly design (the puzzle pieces and font) but then also would look nice hanging on the wall (walnut & white lettering).
You’ll notice that I had to cut the chart in sections on the CNC. If I had a larger CNC, or didn’t have an enclosure, I would have been able to meter the board through the machine, and have it all as one large piece. This is probably the way to go if you’re making one of these, however that wasn’t an option for me, so I incorporated puzzle piece shaped joints so they could connect together after being cut.
As far as hanging the growth chart on the wall, I ended up using a keyhole bit on the underside of the “R” board. This was one of those times where it was just easier to jog the machine by hand, instead of taking the time to program a toolpath in Fusion for the keyhole bit.
After a coat of matte spray lacquer and measuring the correct height on the wall, it all came together pretty well!
